My Story

Hey, my name is Katrina Thomas. I’m a sports coach and founder of UDA, and for the last 13 years, I’ve been empowering children and young people to build resilience and lead positive lives. I started out as a dance teacher, and today I specialise in dance, fencing, and gymnastics, using these sports as tools to engage young people and teach them essential life skills. I’ve had the privilege of working with over 3,300 children and young people, helping them develop the resilience and positive behaviours needed to thrive.

Today, I’m passionate about supporting aspiring coaches who share my dedication to youth empowerment. I teach them my signature approach, the ‘Route to Raising Aspirations’ system, which pairs physical activity with holistic practices to foster resilience and positive behaviour. I know what it’s like to be at the beginning of the coaching journey, and I’m excited to mentor others who are driven to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives.

What is UDA, and what does the organisation do?

UDA (Uniqueness, dreams and ambitions) is a youth-focused organisation dedicated to empowering young people by developing resilience and positive behaviour through physical activity and holistic practices. We specialise in using dance, gymnastics, and fencing as tools for engagement, and our programs incorporate socio-emotional learning techniques, such as mindfulness, goal setting, and affirmations. Our mission is to create an environment where young people can build confidence, develop positive habits, and be inspired to lead fulfilling lives.

What is the “Route to Raising Aspirations” system, and how does it work?

The “Route to Raising Aspirations” is our signature, four-step approach that combines physical activity with holistic development. Through structured programs, young people learn skills to manage their emotions, understand their strengths, and set personal goals. By pairing physical activities with resilience-building practices, we create a learning environment that enhances both physical and emotional well-being, giving youth the tools to bounce back from challenges and envision a positive future.
